My computer has had a horrible virus for at least a week. Instead of taking it to a repair shop, my dad bought me mcafee. Today I installed it and it took about 6 hours. But now when I type in my password for my profile, it acts like it will log me in but then it goes back to the log in screen where the different profiles are listed. I have windows xp. What should I do I'm starting to lose hope. how to stop procrastinating daily motivation overcome shyness improve concentration stress reduction the power of your subconscious mind parenting tips

Running windows, are we? Have you been hearing about how the Chinese hackers are hard after Microsoft and Internet Explorer?

I am a computer repairman. Sounds to me like you have a bad virus in the Master Boot Record. (MBR) You are going to have to do a Low Level Format to wipe the drive. I use Darik's Boot And Nuke for this myself: http://www.dban.org/
Download the iso on a friend's PC, or else you may transfer the virus! Burn the iso to a CD-R or RW as an iso image, not as a file. Start the PC and get into Bios, make it start on the CD. (Bootable Drive) Choose "DoD short" for the wiping program, and take a break, for an 80 Gb drive this will take several hours. Then do a fresh install of Windows, if that is what you want to run. Be advised, Linux does not get viruses at all. Do not put in a "Restore Disc." If you do not have a Windows Install disc, download one like every smart person does already.
Windows XP Professional SP3 - Activated

Windows Vista Ultimate - SP1 - Fully Activated - 32bit

Windows Vista Black Edition 2009 SP1

Vista Black Edition is a stripped and tuned Vista that comes with Firefox, XP Burn, and VLC player. Very fast and stable. If I ran windows, I would run this one. These files are fully factory activated, but only with a fresh install. If you try an upgrade on an existing Windows, you will be asked for an activation code. Fresh install go right in, updates and Service Packs go in with no problem at all. Even Genuine Advantage doesn't know the difference. Shhhh!

These are good downloads, I use them myself for customer's computers all the time. They are all iso files, and have to be burned as an iso image, not a file. You will need a torrent downloader to get these files, BitTorrent is a good one, get it here: http://www.bittorrent.com/btusers/download/?
